Weibin Zhao
Bio:
Born in 1973 into a lion dance performance family in Guangzhou, Zhao Weibin studied lion dance with his father (the late "South Lion King" Zhao Jihong) from a young age and has been studying lion art for over 40 years. His team, the South Lion Dance Drum and Dragon Lion Troupe, is one of the largest dragon and lion performance teams in the world with over 300 lion performers, 18 dragons, and a hundred powerful drum formations. Zhao Weibin has traveled to various parts of the world to participate in international dragon and lion competitions and performance exchanges and has won over 100 championships or gold awards, earning him the title of "World Lion King".
About the visit to AISG:
Zhao Weibin visited our Elementary and Secondary students and educated our students on the culture of Cantonese Lion Dance. Students attended live demonstrations and performances before they get a chance to try it for themselves and even created and designed their own lion masks.
