Guided by ASAG, Powered by Community
As a mission-driven, non-profit school, AISG is guided by the American School Association of Guangzhou (ASAG) and its volunteer Board of Governors. At our Fall and Spring ASAG Bi-Annual General Meetings, the board has the fiduciary duty to report to the caregivers on the status of school operations, finances, and strategic direction. Additionally, these well attended meetings provide an opportunity for AISG to provide a Student Showcase, where caregivers can see firsthand the impact of our work and our commitment to putting students first.

What is ASAG?
The American School Association of Guangzhou (ASAG) is the governing body of AISG. Composed of caregivers with currently enrolled children, ASAG ensures our community’s voice is represented at the highest level of decision‑making. Leadership is provided by a nine‑member Board of Governors, all of whom are volunteers dedicated to serving the school with integrity, strategic foresight, and a deep commitment to AISG’s mission and vision.

What Does the Board Do?
The Board provides fiduciary, strategic, and generative governance, ensuring AISG delivers a world‑class education. While daily operations are managed by the school’s leadership team, the Board sets long‑term direction, upholds the mission, safeguards resources, and ensures every decision and investment directly benefits students and their learning experience.

Why the Non‑Profit Model Matters
As one of the few non-profit schools in China, AISG’s structure is a key advantage. AISG is not owned by a single person, group, or private equity firm – on the contrary every surplus is reinvested into the school, funding exceptional faculty, ongoing professional development, world-class learning environments, and reserves for future needs. This model can invest more into their students, prioritizing student success over profit, fostering transparency, and empowering caregivers to be actively involved in shaping AISG’s future.

Why Caregivers Are So Important
Every caregiver with a child enrolled at AISG is a member of ASAG, giving them a vote and direct stake in the school’s future. Caregivers have an important voice in a non-profit model. Not only do they contribute through ongoing dialogue and community engagement, but they also vote to elect the members of the Board of Governors and school bylaws. This empowers our community to help shape strategic priorities, uphold the school’s mission and vision, and ensure that all decisions support the best possible outcomes for our students.

The Student Showcase – Why We Do This
The Bi-Annual Meeting’s student showcase is more than a short moment of entertainment; it is the embodiment of AISG’s impact in action. Each project, performance, and presentation reflects the values that guide every policy, budget, and strategy: nurturing the whole child, inspiring curiosity, and preparing students to thrive in an interconnected world. Student Showcases are brief but for many, are the highlight of the meeting, varying from choirs and musicals to learning exhibitions, service-learning highlights, and innovation initiatives like VEX robotics.

With a non-profit model and through ASAG’s governance, AISG continues to ensure that our mission, resources, and community work in harmony to deliver transformative learning experiences for every student. When deciding on a school, prospective families can feel confident choosing AISG, knowing that every decision is made in the best interest of students, every surplus is reinvested into programs and facilities, and the and the focus remains entirely on learning, growth, and creating meaningful impact rather than profit.
