Last weekend, nearly 100 members of our AISG community came together for a meaningful family service and learning event at Flow Farm in Zhongshan, one of the many transformative experiences made possible through AISG’s Annual Fund. The Annual Fund helps turn our mission, vision, and social vision into reality by creating opportunities that connect our students and families in ways that inspire learning, compassion, and community spirit.

Flow Farm, an experiential farm and animal sanctuary, has a heartfelt mission: to provide an environment where humans and animals can express themselves freely while fostering love and respect for the natural world. It provided the perfect backdrop for our families to explore sustainability, empathy, and the beauty of nature together.

Throughout the day, AISG families took part in a variety of engaging, hands-on activities carefully designed to spark curiosity and change perspectives. One highlight was the “Ugly Vegetables” workshop, where participants learned how much perfectly good produce is wasted simply because of its appearance and how we can all make more conscientious choices to reduce food waste.

Families also enjoyed harvesting fresh vegetables and herbs right from the gardens, which they then used to decorate their own homemade focaccia bread, infusing the day with creativity and flavor.

A guided tour of the farm brought us face-to-face with Flow’s animal residents and gave us an intimate look into their care and lives. The event ended with joyful, animal-centered activities: our youngest students played with the resident rabbits and fed the ducks; other students interacted and walked the friendly farm dogs; and our older students experienced feeding and grooming one of the ponies. Each interaction was a lesson in empathy, responsibility, and respect.

The impact in community is clear: families left with new knowledge about sustainability, deeper empathy for animals and people, and shared memories that enrich our school culture. These lessons travel back to classrooms and homes, inspiring everyday actions that align with AISG’s mission and vision to develop compassionate, responsible global citizens.
